I like My Little Ponies: Friendship is Magic, its sweet and adorable but also vaguely touching in its own way, and I'm pleased that its available for children and adults alike.

Also I always vaguely thought about my own critters the Nobles as a bit like some eldritch version of the multi-colored ponies.

This was well before the release of G4 version ponies but it was very welcome that the series came around to being something I could enjoy twenty years after I first used to watch the show.

My Little Ponies: Friendship Magic Belongs to Hasbro

Yeah I felt I got all the faces pretty spot on for the core mood of the characters.

Not exactly easy when you consider there is only the vaguest of shape similarities and a color scheme to tie them together.

Well without the dresses that is.

Yes. Those twirly bracelet thingys also work really well on those body frames.

Well the show's style uses very few body types, the only major differences coming from eye shape, colours and mane. So I don't think the challenge is any different.

And you managed to make the outfits look secure on their bodies! That had to be difficult! :XD:

Well...

Kind of.

The secret is you draw the whole body shape first, then you drape the clothes onto it and just 'run the simulation' as it were for cloth.

Really I've said this to many people in person but it always seems like good advice.

Visual art is just like seeing, but backwards.

Your brain KNOWS what it should look like.

You just have to get the fingers and brushes to put it in the right place.

For me, to draw the moment I have to put the scene in my head on pause. With all of those limbs I would be messing with potential poses forever. XD

I always do poses as very quick gestural doodles, like 1-2 seconds tops...

although lately I've actually been getting my body language right on the first or second try.

But then again I've spent more then 1000 images and a year of my life working on my most recent project and getting these characters to emote so that probably is just practice makes perfect.

If you'd like to see the fruits of those labors I've left it linked in my latest journal entry.

It gets into a lot more on what these critters that I adapted the mane six into actually are and how they live.

I keep promising myself I'll draw the mane six as the monsters from "escape from midnight castle".

But been too much of a lazy bum to do it.
